KWDT PROGRAMS

 

1.      ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

a.      Integrated sustainable agriculture program.

KWDT supports women to:-

  • Engage in fish farming
  • Acquire hybrid animals and farm inputs that enable practice of organic farming
  • Engage in diverse but complementary agriculture production (mushroom, Bee keeping, horticulture, agro forestry)
  • Promote permaculture in schools.
  • Support processing of agricultural produce to add value and shelf life.
  • Support cooperative marketing and acquisition of inputs
  • Equip women with knowledge and skills to practice sustainable agriculture.

 

b.       Micro credit program

KWDT supports and promotes:-

  Savings among rural women

  Access to credit

  Training for members in book-keeping and records management.

 

c.        Entrepreneurial development program.

KWDT supports women into enterprises by:

  Initiating income generating activities that create employment opportunities for women

 Training women in book-keeping , records management and entrepreneurial skills

  Providing advice and support to women on financial matters.

 

2.      HEALTH

a.      Water, Hygiene and sanitation program

KWDT supports and promotes:

   Domestic and communal rain water harvesting through the construction of -Ferro cement tanks, community shallow wells and spring  wells.

   Construction of Ventilated Improved Pit latrines (VIP) and Ecological sanitation (Ecosan) latrines for households and schools.

   Construction of facilities to improve hygiene and sanitation at households and schools.

   Establishment of schools health and sanitation clubs.

   Equipping women with knowledge and skills to improve hygiene and sanitation in their household and in the community.

   Local management, construction of wells/tanks, operation and maintenance of water, hygiene and sanitation facilities.

 

b.      HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Water $ sanitation related diseases.

KWDT activities include:-

  Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS.

  Conducting guidance, counseling and referral for infected and affected persons.

  Advocating for improved services and rights for people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

c.       Infant, Reproductive and Maternal Health Program.

KWDT activities include:-

   Creating awareness on infant, reproductive and maternal health.

   Advocating for improved health services.

 

3.      LEADERSHIP & POLITICAL PARTICIPATION.

KWDT activities include:-

  Mentoring women to participate in decision making processes.

  Supporting women to acquire leadership and political positions.

  Train women in human rights, political and leadership skills.

   KWDT advocates for community recognition of a woman’s rights and ability to participate in political leadership

 

4.      KWDT CROSS CUTTING THEMES

KWDT complements all the above programs with:

  Environmental conservation practices are embedded in all KWDT programs, sustainable agricultural practices, conservation of plants and animal species, generation and promotion of renewable energy.

  Advocacy and lobbying for improved service delivery through establishment, training, support of advocacy clubs and conducting of community dialogues.

  Capacity building for the women and other beneficiaries to ensure sustainability of the benefits that result from the above programs.

  Creating awareness through drama plays and theatrical productions
